ENRIQUE GUILLEN JOINS ESTRELLA MEDIA AS CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER

Former NBCUniversal Studio Group Executive to lead U.S. Domestic and Global Content Strategy for Spanish Language Media Company

 

September 12, 2022 – LOS ANGELES, CA – Estrella Media, the transformative Spanish-language media company, serving a diverse multiplatform Latino audience in the U.S., today announced that Enrique Guillen has joined the company as its Chief Content Officer. Guillen joins Estrella Media from NBCUniversal, where he served as Executive Vice President, Commercial Strategy and International Development for the Universal Studio Group. He will report to CEO Peter Markham and be based in the company’s Burbank offices.

 

Guillen will oversee the U.S. domestic and global content strategy for Estrella Media’s television, streaming, digital, audio, events, and digital businesses, including developing, producing, and acquiring all television and film content, overseeing network and station programming, news, sports, digital content, and studio productions. In addition, he will be responsible for the international distribution of the company’s content.

Guillen comes to Estrella from NBCUniversal where he most recently served as head of Global Formats, overseeing the team in charge of international sales and production of NBCUniversal formats around the world. Guillen also created a global portfolio of groundbreaking projects for the Universal Studio Group, including its first ever Spanish language series, “Supertitlan,” in co-production with the Mexican premium label Dopamine, and the 10-episode super-landmark series, “The Americas,” a cross platform multi-year natural history production for NBC and Peacock, in association with the BBC Studios Natural History Unit.

 

Prior to that, Guillen was one of the founding executives of the Universal Television Alternative Studio. As EVP of Alternative Development and Production, he oversaw the development, launch, and international rollout of properties, including “World of Dance,” “Titan Games,” “Hollywood Game Night,” and the award-winning hit game show “The Wall,” produced in over 25 countries. Guillen first joined NBC Entertainment as Senior Vice President of Alternative Programming, developing and producing primetime franchises, including “The Celebrity Apprentice” and “Last Comic Standing.” Guillen also led innovative content, merchandising, and digital initiatives for the network and studio’s brands.

 

Prior to joining NBC Entertainment, Guillen was Vice President, Development and Production at Telemundo Studios, where he oversaw scripted productions across the U.S. and Latin America. He started his career as a journalist and investigative producer, covering national and global politics for Univision News.

 

Guillen holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and an M.A. as a Fulbright Scholar from the University of Miami.

Wednesday, September 7, 2022– LOS ANGELES, CA – Norteados con Don Cheto, Estrella Media’s new one-hour scripted comedy series, will have the first dual platform launch for the EstrellaTV network. The series expands on the characters and rich lore of the hit radio show, Don Cheto Al Aire, featuring Don Cheto, Chino, Gisselle Bravo, and Said Garcia. It premieres with three episodes on the new streaming service Samsung TV Plus on September 15, and then two weekly, back-to-back episodes on EstrellaTV on September 22 at 8 p.m./7 p.m. CT and 9 p.m./8 p.m. CT.

The series unveils a new format for Spanish-language TV that borrows from sketch comedy, improv, mockumentary, and contemporary scripted sitcoms. Set in a cozy home garage, Norteados con Don Cheto features relatable storylines and incredible catastrophes (in Spanish with English language subtitles).

Don Cheto is the beloved character from radio, TV, and YouTube, who has won the hearts of millions of loyal followers in the U.S., Mexico, and Latin America through his daily Los Angeles based radio show. His three talented friends and co-hosts – Said, Gisselle, and Chino – round out a troupe that does relevant and irreverent comedy every morning.  First season storylines include: dueling with pocho podcasters,  finding a girlfriend for the elderly Don Cheto, being bilked by a hot repair guy, and the perils of occasional time travel.

The series was created and produced by Estrella Media’s Agua Fresca Studios, headed by the show’s Executive Producer Jose Marquez, based on the Don Cheto character created and performed by Juan Carlos Razo.  After premiering on the Samsung TV Plus streaming app and platform on September 12, and on EstrellaTV on September 22, the series will be available on-demand on the EstrellaTV app and streaming on EstrellaTV.com starting September 22.

LG is the first partner to launch Estrella Media’s brand-new Cine EstrellaTV FAST channel this month. In addition, LG Channels will carry Estrella News, delivering live Spanish-language news coverage, and EstrellaTV, the flagship television network of Estrella Media. The launch follows the announcement that was made in Estrella Media’s IAB NewFronts presentation.

June 21, 2022 – LOS ANGELES, CA – Pepsi will be joining the series La Academia on EstrellaTV as the official U.S. beverage sponsor of the legendary Latin music competition series. The series is a co-production of Estrella Media and TV Azteca, airing and streaming live and simultaneously on EstrellaTV in the U.S. and Azteca Uno in Mexico on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 p.m. to midnight ET/6 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT. The series premiere was Sunday, June 12 and each week fans can vote for their favorite contestants in both the United States and Mexico online. 

Fourteen “Academicos” (the series participants) from Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, the United States, and Mexico will compete to pursue their dreams of music stardom and becoming the winner of La Academia in its landmark 20th anniversary season. Santaella was EVP, Digital & Streaming Media, and helped launch the company’s successful streaming and AVOD platforms.

June 2, 2022 – LOS ANGELES, CA – Que Buena Los Angeles, the leading Regional Mexican radio station and the flagship station of Spanish-language multiplatform media company Estrella Media, presents the 30th anniversary tribute concert to Chalino Sanchez – “Homenaje al Rey del Corrido.” The concert will be held Friday, July 22, at the YouTube Theater, and tickets go on sale this Friday, June 3, at Ticketmaster. 

Sanchez was killed 30 years ago in Mexico. That night silenced the voice of one of the most memorable Regional Mexican music singers and songwriters. A legend within Mexican communities, he continues to inspire popular music movements and culture. He was a partner in one of the first recording studios for Regional Mexican music, Cintas Acuario, which was the foundation for the genre in Los Angeles, from which the Rivera family – Jenni, Lupillo, and Juan – emerged. 

Que Buena Los Angeles was a supporter of Chalino’s music and continues to play a large role in continuing his legacy. The tribute concert is a celebration of his legacy, but also an expression of reverence for the art of the corrido.
